Vicky Sanipass Porcupine Quill Baskets Brief History: Quilled Eight Point Star; An old Micmac Indian legend has it that a star fell from the sky and landed in the Atlantic Ocean, then crawled its way to shore. The Micmac called it "gog-wit", or "the eight legged star fish", today it is commonly known as the eight point star. It is often considered the most distinctive of Micmac Quill work motifs.
