Brief History:

Quilled Eight Point Star; An old Micmac Indian legend has it that a star fell from the sky and landed in the Atlantic Ocean, then crawled its way to shore. The Micmac called it "gog-wit", or "the eight legged star fish", today it is commonly known as the eight point star. It is often considered the most distinctive of Micmac Quill work motifs.

Dimensions: top, left to right is 6 3/4", from bottom to top is 5 1/2" tall. The top and sides are quilled throughout.

Evangeline Sanipass has been making baskets most of her life, as her grandmother before her. Her baskets are ash splint, with sweet grass and dyed. They are called "Sewing Baskets".
